Fresh Wharf Estates Ltd is pleased to be associated with the opening of a new public arena named Short Blue Place in central Barking. The ‘Short Blue’ was the name given to the fishing fleet operated by the Hewett family in the North Sea, at one time the largest such fleet of trawlers. The Hewett family has been associated with Barking for over two centuries and Hewett family members are still shareholders in Fresh Wharf Estates. The wharves on the river Roding were extremely busy with boat building and repair activity by the mid-nineteenth century. Short Blue Place is located in front of the new Technical Skills College and will be officially opened in the autumn of 2013.
